serum advanced oxidation protein products in oral squamous cell carcinoma: possible markers of diagnostic significance
نویسندگان
چکیده
background: the aim of this study was to measure the concentrations (levels) of serum total proteins and advanced oxidation protein products as markers of oxidant mediated protein damage in the sera of patients with oral cancers. methods: the study consisted of the sera analyses of serum total protein and advanced oxidation protein products’ levels in 30 age and sex matched controls, 60 patients with reported pre-cancerous lesions and/or conditions and 60 patients with histologically proven oral squamous cell carcinoma. one way analyses of variance were used to test the difference between groups. to determine which of the two groups’ means were significantly different, the post-hoc test of bonferroni was used. the results were averaged as mean ± standard deviation. in the above test, p values less than 0.05 were taken to be statistically significant. the normality of data was checked before the statistical analysis was performed. results: the study revealed statistically significant variations in serum levels of advanced oxidation protein products (p<0.001). serum levels of total protein showed extensive variations; therefore the results were largely inconclusive and statistically insignificant. conclusion: the results emphasize the need for more studies with larger sample sizes to be conducted before a conclusive role can be determined for sera levels of total protein and advanced oxidation protein products as markers both for diagnostic significance and the transition from the various oral pre-cancerous lesions and conditions into frank oral cancers.

Serum total protein, albumin and advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP)--implications in oral squamous cell carcinoma.
BACKGROUND The role of oxygen free radicals in the initiation, promotion and progression of carcinogenesis and the protective role of anti-oxidant defenses have been the subject of much speculation in the recent past with conflicting reports in the literature. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to measure the concentration/levels of serum total proteins, albumin and advanced oxidation prote...
متن کاملSerum Endostatin Levels in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Introduction: Endostatin is a C-terminal proteolytic fragment of collagen XVIII and, as with angiostatin and thrombospondin, is known as an antiangiogenic agent. The aim of this study was to assess the level of serum endostatin in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and its association with the clinicopathological characteristics of the tumor. Materials and Methods: Using an ...
متن کاملCircRNA_0109291 regulates cell growth and migration in oral squamous cell carcinoma and its clinical significance
Objective(s): Circular RNAs (circRNAs), a new class of non-coding RNAs, have emerged as important regulators during tumorigenesis. However, the functions of circRNAs have not been completely clarified in the progression of cancers. In our study, a novel circRNA hsa_circ_0109291 was investigated in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) tissues and cell lines. Materials and Methods: The expression ...
متن کاملClinical Significance of Salivary Biomarkers in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Review
Background and Aim: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) accounts for approximately 3% of all cancers worldwide, and if diagnosed early, it has a five-year survival rate of around 85%; however, a late diagnosis may decrease the survival rate to 50%. Aberrant expression of several genes is associated with the hallmarks of OSCC including uncontrolled cell proliferation, poor differentiation, invas...

OSCC is the most frequent malignant tumour of the oral cavity, accounting for more than 90% of malignant tumours of this anatomic region and it often arises from precursor lesions. Aside from tobacco and alcohol consumption, further determinants have been considered to increase the risk of OSCC development, such as micronutrient deficiencies, chronic traumatism, poor oral hygiene and viruses. R...

Objectives Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is among the most common cancers worldwide. This study aimed to assess the expression of CK8 and CK17 by OSCC cell lines in Iranian patients. Methods This observational study was conducted on three OSCC cell lines with a minimum of 45 passages. Cells isolated from three patients with OSCC were cultured and passaged. Expression of CK8 and CK17 epi...
